07:35Matthew 6:10If you've been in a church for a while, you should be at least familiar with 'The Lord's Prayer'. Sometimes, I think that we've said these words so often that we've lot sight of what exactly they mean and the heart behind them.
"..thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven"
One line that always gets my attention in the Lord's prayer is "thy will be done". When we say "God, let your will be done", do we really mean it or are we telling God to do what we want. The truth is that we have our own thoughts towards the things that concern us, we have our own desires and there's that picture we have in our head of how we expect everything to turn out. The heartbreaking part is that for everything that we think we know, we only know in part, we only see in part. That means that our mental pictures are created from partial details.
There is somebody however that knows it all, He knows the end from the beginning and He is God. It only makes sense to allow Him lead and direct the course.
When we pray, '..thy will be done', it's a prayer of surrender; total surrender. We tell God, You have your way. We tell God that we trust Him enough to direct the course of our lives.
Until we get to the place of total surrender where we stop struggling with God and just allow Him direct the course of events, we will always run into danger.
Genesis13:7-117 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
Lot chose the plain of Jordan because it looked nice, it seemed to him like the best decision at that time. How many times have we often acted like Lot, making decisions on just the face value of things. Just because they look nice, feel, smell, sound or taste nice doesn't mean in general that they are nice.
Our thoughts can get clouded by things that are not substantial and we can make wrong decisions but when we get to the place where we don't just make decisions by what we see but by the leading of God, we would see that our lives will turn out for the best.
We think that we love ourselves but the love that God has for us is much more than what we have for ourselves. It's only wise to allow Him take the lead, make the decisions and channel the course for our lives.
Let's get to the place of surrender where we actually mean Lord "...THY WILL BE DONE"
