I almost want to start off this post with a disclaimer saying that this is not directed at anybody specifically and that this just my thoughts and blah blah but ummm, I guess I already did that.
Lately, I noticed that I have a bunch of friends on Facebook, most of which are 'creatives' and by creatives I mean that they are either into fashion designing, blogging, photography, music and the like. A lot of people take to Facebook to promote themselves and heck yeah, I'm all for self promotion. In fact, I started a Youtube Channel not too long ago so if you are not subscribed, click HERE.
Ehen, back to my talk!
One common phrase abi sentence that is continually used is 'support good stuff' and the truth is that it takes a lot to create something and then put it out for public consumption. I don't know exactly how it is for everyone else but for me, usually, it is almost like I'm sharing a piece of myself, a part of my heart with the world.
It can be very frustrating to put in hours in creation and then people don't support you.
But then, there is this group of people who say 'support good stuff' and then the stuff turns out to be hmmm 'not good', bet why?
I often wonder what exactly the standard of good is. It is easy to hide under the umbrella of ART and say 'oh, it's just your means of expression' but then there is good and there is 'not good'.
If you are going to sing, be sure you have a good voice or at least do some vocal training, if you design outfits, train!
In short, whatever it is that you do as a creator, constantly train!!!
One other that just pains me about the whole issue is the fact that these people have people who claim that they are their friends. See, as a friend, you are not just a cheerleader! You should be a supporter of what they do.
Still, you should be able to point out to them when they are not doing well. If you know something is not exactly in the line of their natural gifting,, be confident enough to tell them and encourage them to train if they really want to do it.
In conclusion, there's nothing wrong with being a CREATOR, in fact, we all should be. However, protect your brand, you should produce EXCELLENCE. You shouldn't be the person that people associate with sub-standard stuff and then people will even be more willing to support you.
Remember that you were made excellently well, you owe the world excellence!
